May can feel like everything hits at once.
Finals are coming up. Assignments are due. There’s pressure to finish the school year strong. At the same time, home life doesn’t pause just because school is demanding more.
For some teens, that means trying to study while things feel tense or unpredictable at home. It might mean struggling to focus, feeling distracted, or just being mentally exhausted before even opening a notebook.
One student sat down to study for a final but kept rereading the same page over and over. Not because they didn’t care, but because their mind was somewhere else, thinking about what was happening at home.
That kind of stress adds up.
When school stress and home stress combine, it can feel overwhelming fast. It’s not a lack of effort. It’s not laziness. It’s a lot to carry at once.
Even small adjustments can help. Taking short breaks, changing environments when possible, or letting a teacher or counselor know what’s going on can make things feel a little more manageable.
Getting through this time doesn’t have to look perfect. It just has to be real. And making it through at all is something to be proud of.
