June is Pride Month, a time when many people celebrate being accepted for who they are.
For some teens, that feeling of acceptance can seem far away. Living with family challenges, including a loved one’s mental illness, can already make life feel complicated. Adding questions about identity can sometimes make things feel even harder.
One teen spent years hiding parts of themselves because they worried about how others would react. Then a simple conversation with a trusted friend changed everything. For the first time, they felt seen, understood, and accepted without having to pretend.
Everyone deserves that feeling.
Pride Month is about more than parades and rainbow flags. At its heart, it’s about belonging. It’s about knowing that who you are matters and that you don’t have to become someone else to deserve love, friendship, and respect.
There may be people in your life who don’t fully understand your experience. That can hurt. It can also make supportive friendships and communities even more important.
No matter where you are on your journey, this is worth remembering: you deserve to be accepted for exactly who you are.
There is nothing wrong with being yourself.
