The new school year starts with fresh notebooks, new classes, and maybe even a little excitement.
Then suddenly there are assignments, practices, tests, group projects, friend drama, and everything happening at home too.
One teen started the year determined to stay on top of everything. A few weeks later, homework was piling up, sleep was getting shorter, and every little thing seemed stressful. It felt way too early in the year to already be exhausted.
If that sounds familiar, it doesn’t mean you’re failing at the whole school year.
Stress can build quickly, especially when you’re also dealing with challenges at home. Sometimes the best thing you can do is stop thinking about everything that needs to happen this semester and focus on what needs your attention today.
It can also help to tell someone you’re overwhelmed. A teacher, counselor, coach, family member, or friend may be able to offer support before things feel even bigger.
September doesn’t decide how the rest of your school year will go.
You’re still getting started. Give yourself some time to figure it out.
